The Empyrean - info

The Empyrean review so far

Up to this point, John Frusciante has not revealed too much information on his new album The Empyrean. I will try to give you a summary of the information that is availiable at the moment.

The highly anticipated The Empyrean, is going to be released on January 20th 2009. Why John Frusciante has decided on this date is for me unknown. I think for marketing reasons it would be wiser to release it before Christmas, but they have decided against it. It might be that he thinks he can't compete with the storm of records that arrives in the build up to everyone's favorite holiday, and wants to mop up what is left of buyer after the
festivities are over. Or, maybe he doesn't really care about all this, because he knows that he has a horde of true fans that will buy The Empyrean no matter what. Or he might feel that he has enough money already.

John Frusciante has started a journal over at where he talks a lot about the upcoming album, The Empyrean. While he seemed to be updating it frequently the first days, he has now disappeared for some time now. I have to say that I miss those posts, so if you are out there John, make us happy with some updates. I haven't really mentioned his last journal entry here, but it consists of some thoughts about The Empyrean. Anyway here is the post:

The Empyrean is a story that has no action in the physical world. It all takes place in one persons mind throughout his life. The only other character is someone who does not live in the physical world but is inside it, in the sense that he exists in peoples minds. The mind is the only place that anything can be truly said to exist. The outside world is only known to us as it appears within us by the testament of our senses. The imagination is the most real world that we know because we each know it first hand. Seeing our ideas take form is like being able to see the sun come into being. We have no equivelent to the purity of that in our account of the outside world. The outer world appears to each of us as one thing and it is always also a multitude of others. Inside to outside and outside to inside are neverending. Trying and giving up are a form of breathing.

Deep stuff, eh?

It's deep alright, and that's just what John Frusciante wants i guess. His first post on the site opened like this:

Hello. This is John. I’m going to keep this blog as a place to write things for people who listen to my music. I’ll just write whatever I feel like saying whenever I feel like doing it. I don’t like the old media channels and this is a way of communicating to people without the filter of magazines and their bullshit that has nothing to do with music.
When I read that I, by knowing John's lyrics and former statements, read; I will write down a lot of stuff that I don't think other people will understand, but as long as I understand it, I really dont care. I guess The Empyrean will be like John Frusciantes other work; a lot of metaphors and other stuff that are somewhat out there. You really have to think when reading and listening to his lyrics. It makes it an experience like no other.

John Frusciante has also released the cover art for The Empyrean. It is a drawing of something that looks as stairs from heaven to hell. I'm really not sure what to make of it, but it looks alright. If anyone care to explain it to me, i would be thrilled. Here is the picture:

The empyrean cover art
Once again, if anyone can tell me the meaning (I am sure there is one, just too lazy to look it up myself), i would be grateful.

On he also demonstrates a hand-brain exercise. It is really good, and you should really try it out. The exercise is not related to The Empyrean, but is something you can do with just about any instrument. In addition he has revealed that his favorite shoe is a sorel boot, for some reason.

That just about sums up the information that is out there on The Empyrean by John Frusciante.

If you have any other sites that provide info on The Empyrean, please let me know.

Also, I have found a site about Motivational Songs that you should visit.

The Empyrean update

The Empyrean by John Frusciante is fast becoming one of the most anticipated album releases of 2009. Both his personal fans and the fans of his band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, have high expectations for The Empyrean. Recently he released one of the tracks from the album, Unreachable. The track is according to Frusciante himself the only track that will be pre released from The Empyrean.

While mostly an unknown as a solo act to the general audience, John Frusciante has actually released ten solo albums before The Empyrean. His first album saw the light of day in 1994, when Frusciante had left RHCP. His debut was called "Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt."

On his personal website, John Frusciante recently revealed the track list for The Empyrean. The list consists of 10 tracks, which seems reasonable considering that the only track that has been released, Unreachable, is over 6 minutes long.

Track list for The Empyrean:

1. Before The Beginning
2. Song To The Siren
3. Unreachable
4. God
5. Dark/Light
6. Heaven
7. Enough Of Me
8. Central
9. One More Of Me
10. After The Ending
According to Frusciante The Empyrean will be presented in a somewhat dark fashion. You will get the idea when you listen to his brilliant Unreachable. It is a dark and slow but never boring track that after listening to a few times has grown to be my current favorite.

The Empyrean consists of songs written by John Frusciante himself. The only exception is "Song To The Siren", which is a cover of a Tim Buckley song. It is hardly any surprise that he chose to write all the material himself. He is, as you probably know, one of the main contributors when Red Hot Chili Peppers create new material, not to mention his ten former albums which is mainly written by Frusciante.

His chosen team of coworkers for The Empyrean consist of Flea, his friends Josh Klinghoffer and Johnny Marr, Sonus Quartet and The New Dimension Singers.

Frusciante recently stated "I'm really happy with it (The Empyrean) and i've listened to it a lot for the psychedelic experience it provides." Let's just hope that it will be as good as he claims. I have a feeling it will...

Ohh by the way, The Empyrean is set to released January 20th 2009.

I have added a summary of the information that has been released so far: The Empyrean review

You can find the track from The Empyrean on John Frusciantes MySpace page. The track is called Unreachable, and is 6:11 min long. In other words, a lot of good stuff there.

Frusciantes MySpace page also includes 4 other song from different releases.

The Empyrean

For all of you Red Hot Chili Peppers fans out there; John Frusciante, the guitarist of RHCP, has announced that he is going to release his solo album "The Empyrean" in January 2009. This will surely be one of those must have albums for all fans of both Frusciante and the Chili Peppers.

According to John Frusciante, The Empyrean has been a project he has been working on for some years now, and now it is finally ready to be released to the public.

On his personal website, John Frusciante has written some word about The Empyrean:

The Empyrean is my new record and will be released worldwide via Record Collection on January 20th 2009. It was recorded on and off between December 2006 and March 2008. It is a concept record that tells a single story both musically and lyrically. The story takes place within one person, and there are two characters. It contains a version of Tim Buckley’s, ‘Song To The Siren’ and the rest of the songs are written by me. My friend Josh plays on it, as does Flea. It also features Sonus Quartet, Johnny Marr and The New Dimension Singers. I’m really happy with it and I’ve listened to it a lot for the psychedelic experience it provides. It should be played as loud as possible and it is suited to dark living rooms late at night.

- John Frusciante, November 3rd, 2008

It is especially nice to see that he has gotten the help from fellow Chili Peppers member Flea. It could really give The Empyrean some of that familiar RHCP groove.
From what he said, it sounds as we could expect a pretty dark and emotional album, which i think fits Frusciante just perfect.

More info coming soon..
